good band names

Ok, I couldn't help putting this here. In the LJ spotlight right now is a community called 'good band names' and I could help but think about our 'band'. It's just a silly thing. And the band name?

*dun, dun, dun*

The Dehydrated Marshmallows!

The first album will be entitled Just Add Water The first single will be Dekano (sung to the tune of Piragua from In The Heights. And lots more!

Gahd, I know no one else will get this joke, but what the who. I find it fun. :-p

Book Meme! (taken from Kit)

1. List the first line(s) of 10 books you really like.
2. And then your friends all can guess the book.
3. Post your opinion of the book when someone guessed it.

I'm pretty sure some people are definitely going to get some of these (*cough, cough* kit). Like Kit said, if you've read them, you'll probably recognize them right away. On, second thought, typing this up, maybe not. I just realized that some of them are kind of hard. >.<; They're all from some of my favorite books. They're kind of spread all across different genres, though, so good luck with that.

1. The sun sets in the west (everyone knows that), but Sunset Towers faced east. Strange!

2. They say Maniac Magee was born in a dump. They say his stomach was a cereal box and his heart a sofa spring.

3. She didn't remember dying.
With an obscure sense of apprehension, she wondered if the distant angry voices drifting in to her meant she was again about to experience that transcendent ending: death.

4. "There are dragons in the twins' vegetable garden."

5. The trawler plunged into angry swells of the dark, furious sea like an awkward animal trying desperately to break out of an impenetrable swamp. The waves rose to goliathan heights, crashing into the hull with the power of raw tonnage; the white sprays caught in the night sky cascaded downward over the deck under the force of the night wind.

6. The queen waited. Sitting at the window, she watched the lights of the town glow in the last of the long twilight. The sun had been down for hours and it was still not fully dark. True dark wouldn't come, except in the odd unlit corners.

7. In the land of Ingary, where such things as seven-league boots and cloaks of invisibility really exist, it is quite a misfortune to be born the eldest of three. Everyone knows you are the one who will fail first, and worst, if the three of you set out to seek your fortunes.

8. This is not a story of heroic feats, or merely the narrative of a cynic; at least I do not mean it to be. It is a glimpse of two lives running parallel for a time, with similar hopes and convergent dreams.
//this has to be my favorite of the opening lines here :)

9. "Are you awake, Will? Will? Wake up, it's time for your medicine, love..."

10. And they lived happily ever after.
Not the Tillermans, Dicey thought. That wasn't the way things went for the Tillermans, ever. She wasn't about to let that get her down.

I really, really, really wanted to put in Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy, but I couldn't find our copy of it.. Boo... And I almost put And Both Were Young by Madeleine L'Engle here, but then that book's really hard to find here, so I doubt any of you guys have read that.

meme

tagged by danna. and bored enough to do it. (and i just want to distract myself from acads. hah!)

A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it".

1. i played outside all the time when i was a kid. until the end of grade school. i was one of the kids who would change out of my school clothes and go play outside even if it was noontime. and we would be on the streets till we got hungry.

2. i love running. there's just something i love about having the wind blowing against your face. it's exhilarating (oh, and beating all the other kids at all the games that involved runnning was always fun when i was a kid>:) )

3. my mother is visayan, and we spent all our vacations as kids in either davao or leyte. i can understand visayan, but i can't speak it. but whenever i spend too much time in the province, i tend to speak with a visayan accent. and i grew up thinking a lot of visayan words were tagalog. i used to tell classmates in grade school to give me my kalo when i wanted my cap and no one understood me.

4. i used to create all these stories with a huge cast of characters when i was a kid. like having a whole world of imaginary friends. i would spend hours just daydreaming about those stories.

5. i tend to listen to other people's conversations. it's not that i intentionally eavesdrop, i just can't help hearing what other people are talking about especially when i'm somewhere with a lot of people. i'm weird that way.

6. i go off on tangents during conversations, and not everyone can understand how i got to another topic from one topic. for example, i'd be having a conversation with someone about bags. and then i'd remember that someone else has this cute bag, and that she also has a cute keychain. and the next thing you know i'll be talking about keychains without explaining the leap from bags to keychains.

7. my mother told me that when i first went to preschool, the teachers would ask her if i ever laughed or talked to people at home because i was always so serious during school. apparently i never smiled during preschool. seryoso daw ako masyadong bata >.<

i tag [info]kylerthatch, [info]huggabearry, [info]erilyn525600, [info]annahojmai, [info]tina_itsme, [info]maylaybdyornal. i'm supposed to tag one more person, but i don't have a lot of lj friends :))

bus ride home

the thought that maybe eee is still getting to me even when i'm not studying struck me while i was in the bus today. -_-' i was listening to my mp3 player, minding my own business, when my thoughts wandered to how mp3s are shuffled. then, somehow, my mind was thinking about the function used in programming that returns a random number. then, i remembered the playlist program we had to do in eee11. then, i thought if the random number generator returned a number greater than the number of songs, an error would occur. so i thought that you had to mod the random number generated by the number of songs to get a number that is always the range of 0 to the number of songs. then i thought i wouldn't be able to get the highest number if i mod it. then i realized that it's ok because the index i'd use would be from 0 to (the number of songs - 1).

i apologize to those who had to read the above. >.<; it's just such a random weird thought i had to put down. i'm pretty sure people who have taken programming probably want to hit me over the head right now.

oh, and on the second bus home, there was this kid in a stroller in front of me. she was so cute--and she was looking at me. i'd shake my head, then she'd copy me. then i'd nod. and she'd nod. haha... it was a really fun thing to do on the bus.

yesterday

yesterday was fun. i had class in the morning, as usual. then i went to beaver lake to go skating in the afternoon. skating outdoors is so much fun. there were even some squirrels scampering on the ice. :P and the fact that there's actually scenery to look at while skating is fun. there were all sorts of people on the ice. there were teens, kids, really little kids, parents, and even grandparents.

masarap magmuni-muni habang nagiice skating :P

definitely doing it again. i really like the fact that it's so easy to get around here. i was planning to go watch a movie yesterday too, but i was too tired. maybe next wed.

till next time. i really suck at blogging.

after skiing >_<;

we went skiing yesterday at cape st.-jacques. oh, and it was cross-country skiing, not downhill skiing. my thighs and arms hurt a lot today, basically i'm sore all over. but, considering it was my first time to go skiing yesterday, i did pretty well. we went through almost 9km of ski trails yesterday. i fell a lot. >_<; and i have a bump/bruise on my right knee from falling forward onto my skis.

we even went out onto a river (frozen, of course). it wasn't part of the trail, but tito guy wantedto look at some people who were ice fishing on the river. i went along, of course. but while we were standing on the snow-covered ice, thoughts of news headlines kept flashing in my mind. 'young flipino teen dies from hypothermia, falling through broken ice.' of course, that didn't happen, but it was kind of strange knowing that i was standing on a river.

i liked skiing, but i have to say i like skating more. skating feels 'freer' for me. and i can control my falling more on skates than on skis. though skiing is easier than skating. but i like the feeling of skating more. :P anyhoo, that's all for now.

finally, an update

first off, happy valentine's day to everyone out there. anyway, here's a drawing...

well, a lot happens, but i really suck at this writing in this blog. >_<; so, here's some of what's been happening and i'll probably elaborate some other time--or maybe not, i don't know.. :-P

* french classes started jan22. it's actually fun, i'm enjoying it. though it can be confusing at times..

* my uncle, aunt, and i have gone to all the 'sortie culturelles' (a phrase i picked up in french class, it's theater/music/play/etc) that they had planned for me. we went to a ballet, an opera, an orchestra concert, and a play. ballet = the nutcracker, opera = lakme, orchestra = classical (vivaldi, beethoven, etc), play = don juan.

* we went skating. twice, so far. the first time, i sucked. much. but it turned out i was wearing skates that were too tight because the next time (last sat) i was skating a whole lot better.

there are a lot more stuff, of course. but i'm not in much of a blogging mood. actually i'm a little disappointed. i was planning to go ice skating after class today, but thanks to a snowstorm, i couldn't. it's just my luck that the day i was supposed to go ice skating is when it starts snowing again. but my uncle's taking me cross-country skiing on saturday, so that's something to look forward to.

snow and other matters

whee~e... it finally snowed last dec 26. i just had to get the non-white christmas here. -_-' owel... at least the snow seems to be sticking now. just yesterday, my uncle and i made a snowman (an ugly snowman, but a snowman nonetheless). it's not as easy to make as it looks. but it was definitely fun. :D sort of like playing with play doh. only not as easy to mould.

gah... i ended up crying the dec 23 evening. (long story, i'll elaborate on this some other day). but these are the factors: a family dinner with my uncle's family, his niece and nephew were acting like the siblings that they were. it's no wonder i ended up crying on the way home (and while i was on the phone with my parents and brothers after).

anyway, i'm better now. just homesickness getting the most of me.

we're going to watch the nutcracker later this evening. yes, folks, the nutcracker. this is only my second time to watch a ballet (i was six during the first, romeo and juliet). and tomorrow we're going out with tita ophie, my aunt's friend. and on some saturday night, i'll be going with nicky, tita ophie's son, to the bars! >:D that, i'm definitely looking forward to.

been taking pictures, but i have to use up the film first. i'll keep you guys posted. :D

i'm back

just a thought: i really hate how some people will use all these back-handed ways of making you feel bad about yourself. and i really hate that i feel bad when i read those stuff. and i really hate how hard it is to say something you're really sincere about and i hate that even then, it's still not understood. i really hate how i can say what i think more easily with the written word instead of the spoken one. i really hate the fact that i know that it means more to hear something than to read it, that it's harder to say something than write it, but i can never be strong enough to say it and still write it. i really hate that i am insignificant, and what i say is insignificant, to some people who really mean a lot to me. i hate being a coward, but i can never seem to change.

thoughts

agh... i never thought i'd be saying this, but i'm homesick. i miss my family, my friends, home itself. it's weird that i have to be on the opposite side of the world to appreciate the people in my life.

i used to think that i'd never get homesick. because i would go to all those over the weekend outings, overnights, vacations, etc. and not miss anything. but it's really different when you can't just text someone or call someone.

//agh, the entry's gonna clutter friends' pages up again... another lj-cut.

holiday thoughts )

i am enjoying this vacation. it's not everyday that i can travel outside our country, and i intend to enjoy all that will be happening, even if i am missing home. and i blame the link on jolleen's lj for making me so sappy in this entry. :P http://www.happyslip.com/2006/12/18/51/ but, honestly, that brought on a warm, fuzzy feeling. :P

oh, and i probably won't be able to go online for the next two weeks. i think we're going to quebec city next weekend, and i'm sure my aunt and uncle are planning some more activities during their christmas breaks from work. but i will still try to go online (during weekdays), i just can't promise that i will be. >.<;

Descriptions

I haven't really described what I've been seeing here in Canada decently and I better make up for it, right? So that's what I'll be doing in this entry. And since it'll clutter your friends pages, I'm gonna put it behind another lj cut.

That's all, folks. Oh, by the way, Virg, there are a lot of the new Volkswagen beetles here. :D Man, it's really cute. Mga tao, paramdam naman kayo. Email me sometime.

long delayed update

Finally. I've got the computer in the house fixed and can go online regularly now. Though, right now the internet is so slow. But my aunt said she'd be switching to dsl soon.

Anyway, this entry'll be my long delayed update. i'm putting it behind an lj cut so if you're willing to plod through this, just press the link below.

Sorry for the really unstructured update. I've just been typing all that came to mind. By the way, in case I haven't said it yet, I miss you guys a lot. I try to be online 9:30pm Pinas time.
==============
...you have to reach out to people. To your family too. You can't just let them sit there, you should put your hand out. if they slap it back, well you reach out again if you care enough. If you don't care enough, you forget about them, if you can... And I see this paper of yours as a kind of reaching out... I'm not saying that's what you thought you were doing or what you even wanted to do. And I'm sorry, the way it turned out. Because someone slapped your hand back good and hard. but I don't want you to stop reaching, just because it didn't come out the way it should have.

Dec. 5th, 2006

excuses

This is not a real update. I'm only here to say I owe a lot of updates. I'll probably write an update at home and post it when I am able to go online again.

The computer at home has a virus at the moment, and we still have to reformat it before it can be used for net purposes. But I will try to have a decent update up next time.

Oct. 16th, 2006

am posting

Hey. Since I actually got exempted from the eee33 finals tomorrow, I decided to actually post in this blog.

I decided that I'll use this blog to keep people updated about what'll be happening to me come next sem. When I go to Canada. It's easier than sending mass emails to people, right? So, why the heck am I posting? I'm still here in the Philippines, aren't I? la lang :-P

I think the preparations are worth writing about. Especially since I already have a tentative itinerary for my trip. My aunt was asking me if it was ok, and I think it is, so this will probably be it. Unless something comes up.

itinerary )

If nothing comes up--sure hope nothing comes up--I'll be leaving in a month and a half. :D
//[11-04-06] There, I decided to edit it, so that people would actually understand it. That's only my trip to Canada, I took out the return trip because I think that was even more confusing. I think it's fairly easy to understand now. Total travel time: 21 hrs and 35 mins. (including waiting for the connecting flights) >.<; It's almost like time-traveling. I travel for 21++ hrs and still arrive in Canada on the same day I leave Manila. Haha...
