1. List the first line(s) of 10 books you really like.
2. And then your friends all can guess the book.
3. Post your opinion of the book when someone guessed it.
I'm pretty sure some people are definitely going to get some of these (*cough, cough* kit). Like Kit said, if you've read them, you'll probably recognize them right away. On, second thought, typing this up, maybe not. I just realized that some of them are kind of hard. >.<; They're all from some of my favorite books. They're kind of spread all across different genres, though, so good luck with that.
1. The sun sets in the west (everyone knows that), but Sunset Towers faced east. Strange!
2. They say Maniac Magee was born in a dump. They say his stomach was a cereal box and his heart a sofa spring.
3. She didn't remember dying.
With an obscure sense of apprehension, she wondered if the distant angry voices drifting in to her meant she was again about to experience that transcendent ending: death.
4. "There are dragons in the twins' vegetable garden."
5. The trawler plunged into angry swells of the dark, furious sea like an awkward animal trying desperately to break out of an impenetrable swamp. The waves rose to goliathan heights, crashing into the hull with the power of raw tonnage; the white sprays caught in the night sky cascaded downward over the deck under the force of the night wind.
6. The queen waited. Sitting at the window, she watched the lights of the town glow in the last of the long twilight. The sun had been down for hours and it was still not fully dark. True dark wouldn't come, except in the odd unlit corners.
7. In the land of Ingary, where such things as seven-league boots and cloaks of invisibility really exist, it is quite a misfortune to be born the eldest of three. Everyone knows you are the one who will fail first, and worst, if the three of you set out to seek your fortunes.
8. This is not a story of heroic feats, or merely the narrative of a cynic; at least I do not mean it to be. It is a glimpse of two lives running parallel for a time, with similar hopes and convergent dreams.
//this has to be my favorite of the opening lines here :) 9. "Are you awake, Will? Will? Wake up, it's time for your medicine, love..."
10. And they lived happily ever after.
Not the Tillermans, Dicey thought. That wasn't the way things went for the Tillermans, ever. She wasn't about to let that get her down.
I really, really, really wanted to put in Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy, but I couldn't find our copy of it.. Boo... And I almost put And Both Were Young by Madeleine L'Engle here, but then that book's really hard to find here, so I doubt any of you guys have read that.
